The marina of Torrox, has been an aspiration since 2003, when the first project was approved, but however, after several years and the ravages of the economic crisis of 2008 and after several vicissitudes, including the drafting of a preliminary project in 2012, it did not just have a real picture, until in 2018, the municipal government, officially resumed the initiative.
Today, and after the change of government in the Junta de AndalucÃa, it seems that Torrox Town Hall is no longer the only one interested, but the private initiative has taken action and the project is even closer to reality.
The project itself, presented by the company Acciona, has registered a proposal to build a marina with a capacity of 872 berths in the municipality of Torrox. The estimated investment is around 87 million euros.
According to the private proposal, the berths will allow the arrival of boats with lengths between 8 and 40 metres. A breakwater on a slope that cannot be overtopped is planned with a total length of 856 metres, starting a few metres to the west of the Vilches beach.
Within the complex, 6,640 square metres are reserved for commercial activity and restaurants. The rest of the buildings are destined for essential uses and activities related to port activity, such as maritime captaincy and offices, dry docks and a fuel service station.
On both sides of the port, the regeneration of the Vilches beach to the west and the Calaceite beach to the east is planned, to be carried out by means of the contribution of external material, which must have similar characteristics to the sand currently existing.
This project, which is undoubtedly important for the development of Torrox and Nerja, and will undoubtedly, increase the price of properties in the area.
